Swatch & Review

Swatch & Review: Colors by Llarowe July POTM – Rebillion

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***

You might find this hard to believe but during my teenage years, I was pretty reckless. We’re all friends here, so can I be honest? I used to drink underage, go clubbing and partying, smoke cigarettes, just basically engaging in activities I had no business with. I know you’re probably think, ‘not Krystal’. But yep, that was me, bucking up against the system…. #myparents because…..I really don’t know why, maybe I thought it was cool and I wanted to push the limits? I never got into anything too serious, I kinda chalked it up to being a teenager.

Nevertheless, I grew out of that rebellious phase and matured very quickly when I found out I was pregnant with my son at 19. He is the best thing that happened to me and thank God for him because I’m not sure how my life would be if I didn’t have him.

Anyway, enough of the mushy stuff, lets talk shop…or polish in this case. The moral of my story is, I’m sure most of us would agree that we have been rebellious at some point in time. But I don’t remember rebellion looking so good.

Today I have Rebellion, the July Polish of the Month (PotM) from Colors by Llarowe (CbL). If you’re not familiar with PotM, then let me warn you now, SET MANY, MANY ALARMS!!! PotM is a one time, 24 hour offering pre-order polish that launches on the first of each month. PotM are only be available for purchase on the 1st of each month and then WILL NOT be offered again. And spoiler alert…. I will have August PotM too. I mean not today, but in a few weeks, I’ll have a full S&R!!! I’m so excited. But let’s not jump too far ahead, let’s take a look at Rebellion.

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture Polishes (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

  Overall Thoughts

Formula / Application: formula is amazing and while it dries slightly textured, a good quality top coat will bring out the sparkle and shine

Opacity: 3 coats

Price: $11

Availability: July 1st at 12pm mt – July 2nd at 12pm mt

Overall: LeahAnn is amazing and all the polishes I have from this brand are gorgeous. I love the flakies and how squishy this polish is. And with the matte tc…forget about it! Set an alarm, get the polish!

Were or are you rebellious as a child, teenager or young adult? Let me know in the comments?

Swatch & Review: Bad Bitch Polish – July Birthstone Duo

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***

Hey friends, welcome back! Today I have swatches from the upcoming July Birthstone Duo from Bad Bitch Polish (BBP).

Rubies, the birthstone of July, are considered the king of precious gems for fortunate folks born in July. Symbolic of the passion and energy associated with the color red, the vibrant ruby is said to bring love, success, health and wisdom. It was believed wearing a fine red Ruby bestowed good fortune on its owner. A Ruby is the most valuable gemstone and its value increases based on its color and quality.

Accordingly, the name “ruby” comes from rubeus, the Latin word for red and these fiery gems have been treasured throughout history for their vitality. Due to its deep red color, ruby has long been associated with the life force and vitality of blood. It is believed to amplify energy, heighten awareness, promote courage in wealth, love and battle. After researching to find all this, I quickly realized why my hubby is a forced to be reckoned with 🙂

So let’s take a look at the two rubies Britt created?

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Ruby Slipper

A red jelly-holo-glitter

Ruby Rhod

A muted candy red linear holo

Overall Thoughts

Formula / Application: no issues to report

Swatch & Review: Literary Lacquer – June 23rd 2017 Release

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***

Howdy y’all! Happy belated Fathers Day to all the kings that visit the Queendom.

You know, this past weekend my king helped me do a thing. I’ve never been much of a ‘hair person’, it’s just not my forte.

Usually this time of year, as the weather gets warmer, I tend to get an urge to cut all my hair off. So this past Friday that’s exactly what we did, we even colored it. I love how it came out. This time, instead of cutting it all off, I left the top long, oh heck, I can’t describe it, go check out my IG, I posted a picture a couple days ago.

Today’s review features returning, new and core polishes from Literary Lacquer.

Anyway, let’s take a look at what will be releasing this Friday.

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Returning Favorites:

And So I Step Up * Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster * Ether Binge * Flickum Bicus * Grasshopper With Candy Colored Hair * Porco Rosso * Some Glad Morning * Green Gables * Lake of Shining Waters * Raspberry Cordial? * Marilla’s Amethyst Brooch * If It Pleases You * Happy Prince * Hope Is A Thing With Feathers * Amortentia * Mysterious Irrevocable Sacred * Orgasm * If Thou Hast Eyes To See * Desdemona’s Handkerchief * Salmon Chanted Evening * Bluestocking Romance * Breathing Dreams Like Air * Laters Baby * Long May She Reign

Lettie’s Ocean

A soft turquoise holo with holo sparkle. Designed with Carolyn Chambers.

Swaying Grayly

A matte light grey polish packed with silver flakes and glass fleck. (No top coat for matte effect, or with topcoat for a more metallic silver look).  Designed with Adrienne Nguyen

Miner’s Gift

A blue/purple multichrome with holographic microflakes

Overall Thoughts

Formula / Application: no hassle formula and easy application

Opacity: Opaque in 2-3 coats, swatches shown with 3 coats

Gift w/ purchase* – mini bottle with $20 purchase, full sized bottle with $50 purchase

Overall: There is no particular standout in the bunch for me as I love them all equally. However Swaying Grayly and it’s amazing matte formula was a surprising treat. And Orgasm was perfectly named for its nailgramic formula and beauty.

Did any tickle your fancy? Let me know in the comments.

Swatch & Review: Little Black Dress Polish – Prom King and Queen Duo

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***

Good Day y’all! How many of you remember your senior year of high school? #insertraisedhandhere I remember it like it was yesterday. It was by far the best year of high school because duh, graduation!!! But before graduation, there is PROM!! For me, it is probably one of the most exciting days of my young adult life. I spent the entire day preparing, getting my hair and nails done, going to dinner and topping it off with dancing making memories that would last a lifetime. It would have been a dream come true had I been crowned Prom Queen but no such luck for me but it ok because the evening was still magical.

Today’s review features a duo from Courtne King of Little Black Dress Polish. This duo came about when Courtne’s son’s girlfriend’s mother, say that 5 times fast, requested a custom polish to go with her daughter’s prom gown. To their surprise, the couple was crowned prom king and queen and are now off to college in the fall.

As I was swatching and preparing this blog, my 10 year old looks over and says, “mommy, this color matches the color of my bridesmaids dress I wore to the wedding.” By golly, she was right. The colors of my wedding were blue, silver and white (yes, we went with Dallas Cowboys colors as hubby is a die-hard fan). So I pledge today to wear these polishes on my next anniversary, Feb.14th!!

Let’s jump into the swatches!

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Prom King

A true navy blue cream with a sprinkle of shimmer. Swatch shown in 2 coats but opaque enough in 1.

Prom Queen

A bright, sparkly azure blue jelly with glittlers and holo flecks. Swatch shown in 3 coats.

Prom King and Queen

Swatch shown with 2 coats of Prom Queen over Prom King.

Golden Dew Cuticle Oil

Made with vitamin E oil, argon oil, jojoba, tea tree oil, lanolin and a blend of essential oil.

Golden Dew Cuticle Oil

Golden Dew Cuticle Oil

Overall Thoughts

Formula / Application: POLISH – Prom King is smooth like a baby’s bottom. No streaking and self leveling, no issues to report. I highly recommend a base coat to avoid staining of Prom King which is highly pigmented. Prom Queen, has some settling of glitters which is expected but a good shaking over even allowing the polish to sit upside down will help.  OIL – very hydrating and moisturizing. Not overly greasy and absorbs into cuticle and nail bed nicely. Personally, I was not a fan of the smell but hubby and my girls liked it. I added a little vanilla and coconut fragrance oils. I’ve only been using it for about a week and while I haven’t notice any difference in my nails, I do love how long-lasting it is even through hand washing.

Price: $15 for duo and $5 for oil

Availability: polish – TBA and cuticle oil 7/1

Overall: I think Prom King and Queen are complete show stoppers. There are so many things you could do with them, wear them together or apart and they’ll still look amazing. Look for these polish in the near future when I do my 4th of July mani!

Did you go to your high school prom? If so, tell me the color of your dress? If not, what color dress would you have worn? Let me know in the comments

Swatch & Review: Dainty Digits – Rainbow Sorbet Delight Collection (2017 REVAMP) and Tropic of Cancer

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***

Is it Friday yet? No? Geesh….this week is moving at a snails pace. But I guess I shouldn’t complain as this weekend looks like another busy one. And did I mention that Friday is the last day of school? That means 3 months home with my kids because summer camps are so darn expensive. But I have a bunch on fun things for my girls to do to keep them busy and learning (shhhhh) at the same time. Things like science projects, math games, social studies activities and at some point I’ll throw in some reading and language arts. But I know it’s summer break, so I’ll keep it exciting, I don’t want them sitting around watching tv during the day…I mean I still have to work so they’ll need something to keep them busy.

As for my son, he’s getting to experience the life of a college student for a week and has basketball to keep him busy. We were hoping to get him a summer job but these crazy labor law limit him from working at 14…lol, like really?! Do I guess it’s back to dog walking for him.

But alas, let’s get to today’s swatches. New to the blog I have Dainty Digits Polish. As a licensed nail tech from Memphis, TN, Anetress began creating polishes on a quest for holos in 2013. What started as a hobby, frankening polishes turned into a business for her and more gorgeous polish for us nail addicts to love. Anetress and I have been Facebook friends for awhile but I had never tested the waters with her polishes, so to speak. But all that has and will change after today.

Today I have the entire Rainbow Sorbet Delight Collection, Tropic of Cancer and a video of a little added treat. Let’s take a look 👀!

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte Me topcoat by Jior Couture (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Rainbow Sorbet Delight Collection (2017 REVAMP)

($72 set and $9 individual)

Strawberry DeLite (pink) – Strawberry scented

 Papaya Punch (peachy-orange-red) – pineapple/peach scented fusion

Tangerine Dreamsicle (bright orange) – tangerine/dreamsicle scented fusion

Banana Cream POW*- (neon yellow creme) – banana scented

Lemonade Sorbet (light yellow creme) rainbow sherbet scented

Starfruit Gelato (creamy light green) – fruity rings/candied apple scented fusion

Huckleberry Parfait (creamy blue) blackberry fizz/blueberry cheesecake scented fusion

Berry Berry Punch (lavender) blackberry fizz scented

*******

Tropic of Cancer – a ruby red holo ($11)

Tree Hugger (not shown), is the newest edition to DDP! It’s a water-based top coat that’s perfect for chrome powder art, foils AND the environment! Non-toxic/Vegan/7+ Free! I was able to pick it up as well and test it in a live video on my Facebook page. You can check it out here and be sure to pick it up on the DDP site for $8.

Overall Thoughts

Formula / Application: gorgeous neon pastel cremes and sinfully delicious holo. No issues to report.

Opacity: 3 coats (no whites undies)

Availability: Current

Overall: You may be saying to yourself, “Krystal didn’t do any nail art with the crèmes?” Well I have 2 reasons! First, because you all know I love crèmes and as gorgeous as these are, I know that any nail art or designs will only enhance their beauty. Secondly, I’m going LIVE on my Facebook page to put this polishes to the ultimate test…… WATERMARBLING!! Tune in this Friday, June 9th at 4pm et to see how they do.

Swatch & Review: Nail Social Nail Brand

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***

I always do this, I wait until the last minute on Sunday to starting writing up Monday’s post. I’m not usually a procrastinator but I always figure I’ll have time some time over the weekend to sit down, get my thoughts together and start writing but I kid you not, the weekends are getting shorter and these kids are keeping me running double time.

For instance, this past Saturday my middle child participated in a 5k which started at 9:30 but she had to be there at 8:30 which meant we had to be up and out the door at 7:30. Meanwhile my oldest, had band camp from 10-4 then 2 basketball games at 5:30 and and 7:40, which, did I mention they were an hour away?! Luckily my youngest has gymnastics during the week so she was not part of the hecticness of the weekend. Yes I know hecticness is not a word but I made it up…lol.

I say all that not to complain because I love being a mom and I’d do anything for my kids, but I just want to explain and put things in perspective. If there are ever any issues with Monday posts, don’t blame me or the alcohol, blame the kids…lol

I kid, sorta. But seriously, today I have 3 amazing polishes from a ‘new to me’ brand, Nail Social Nail Brand. Owner and creator Tasia Collins from Detroit, MI will be launching her new brand on her birthday, June 18th. This first collection will feature 12 polishes including shimmers, cremes and glitters.

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte topcoat by Turtle Tootsie Polishes (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

24K Mermaid

An ocean blue with light blue shimmer

Cocktails in Aruba

A neon orange creme

Rose’ All Day

A rose pink with gold shimmer

Overall Thoughts

Formula / Application: no issues to report

Opacity: 3 coats (shown without white undies

Price: $7

Availability: June 18th

Overall: for a new brand, Tasia has definitely done her homework to produce a quality product. I cant wait to see what else this brand has to offer.

Swatch & Review: Polish My Life – Summer ’17 Collection

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***

Good Morning and happy Friday! Can you believe that we are just a few short weeks away from the first day of summer? What happened to spring? Here in MD, we didn’t experience much of the warm, spring like weather, inset pouty face here. What we did get was rain, cloudy skies and a few days of COLD weather. I told Jason, “that’s it….we’re moving to FL.” He laughed it off a) because this wasn’t the first time I suggested we move south and b) because he knows I can be a bit of a drama queen. Anywho, I am actually looking forward to summer. Not sure why because 1) I dislike heat, and by heat, I mean the unbearable, breath-taking heat where you start sweating the moment you step outdoors. And 2) We don’t have any family vacations planned #adultingsucks and WE ARE BUYING A HOUSE!!! YAY!! So there goes all our money. But I can trust the kids, will keep us plenty busy with gymnastics twice a week for 2.5 hours each, basketball, band and camps.

But as I am going to and fro on those hot, summer days, I do hope that we have a chance to take a day trip to the beach and get to the neighborhood pool every so often. What I can tell you for sure is that I, and my nails, will look amazing doing so. So who’s ready for a little math? I know you’re probably thinking…math? Really? Yes, trust me, it’s easy and fun. Try it!

What is

Creamy Jelly Shimmers + Holo Flakies + Diamond Holo Flakies?

The Summer ’17 Collection by Polish My Life!!!!

See, I told you it was easy. Now let’s take a look!

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte topcoat by Turtle Tootsie Polishes (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Cotton Candy Bling

Brunch Much?

Boujee in Blue

Unicorn Blow

Overall Thoughts

Formula / Application: no major issues to report. As always when applying flakies and glitter, I would recommend using 2 coats of topcoat to smooth out the finish….unless you prefer or don’t mind a textured finish.

Opacity: 2-3 coats. Swatch shown in 3 coats.

Price: $45/set or $11/each and $12 Unicorn Blow

Availability: June 3rd @ 9am et

Overall: I think this collection is stunning. You may think, I have these colors/shades already, I don’t need any more, but I am here to tell you that Shaneka did something special with these polishes. My personal pick is Unicorn Blow and I wish the sun had been out so I could have captured its true beauty outdoors. It sparkles wonderfully!

Swatch & Review: Alter Ego – June Fantasmic Flakies Group Custom and Polish Pickup Pack

***PRESS (PR) SAMPLE NOTICE ***

Good Morning!! Today is my 1 year BLOGIVERSARY!! #insertapplausehere! I am super excited that I have made it this far and I’m even more excited to see what the future has in store. But let’s be honest, it’s because of you, the readers, supporters and encouragers that I have made it this far. Spoiler Alert 🚨- there is a special announcement at the end of this post! Also, be on the lookout for a blog post outlining some blog changes coming down the pike. Sorry, I didn’t mean to hijack this post and make it about me, but I just wanted to say ‘Thank You!’

Today’s S&R features 2 June customs from Alter Ego, one for Fantasmic Flakies and the other for Polish Pickup Pack. But before we jump into that, let me ask you a question. Do you have an alter ego? I asked myself this question as I was writing the this post and this is what I discovered.

An alter ego is a person’s secondary or alternative personality and through my experience as a swatcher/blogger I have been able to unleash my own “alter ego” if you will. While she doesn’t have a name, she does have quite the personality. She is bold, daring, courageous, talented, spontaneous and outgoing. She has enabled me to come out of my shell and comfort zone to explore a side of me that allows me to live in my true happiness. I don’t have to live in fear, shame or doubt but I am free to be me. Maybe it’s age or experience, heck maybe it’s just gas, but what ever it is, it’s here to stay.

Let’s take a look 👀 at Cynthia’s June customs!

**All swatches are done using Commitment Issue Peel-off Base Coat by Vapid and Tonic Topper by Tonic (shiny) and Matte topcoat by Turtle Tootsie Polishes (matte). Swatch photos are taken using artificial lights.**

Fantasmic Flakies

Abie’s Irish Rose

A light green base with diamond dust and 3 different color flakies

Notes from the makers: “Abie’s Irish Rose is a way back throwback to a love story kinda like Romeo & Juliet. Instead of feuding families Abie is Jewish & Rose is Catholic and it details the families objections to the different religions marrying and trying to find peace with it when the couple elopes. Compromise is happily finally reached when the young couple has a baby.”

Overall Thoughts

Formula / Application: no issues to report
Opacity: Swatch shown in 3 coats
Price: $9 full size (17ml) and $4.50 mini (8.5ml)
Availability: June 5th @ 5:30pm ct

Polish Pickup Pack

Courtney’s Frogspawn Coral

A holo green glitter with neon purple flakies. It can be a topper or built up for coverage

Notes from the maker, “Fish tank is for June, description, “When the theme of “Under The Sea” was chosen I didn’t go to the aquarium or the internet, I went to 6Harts living room! Courtney has a salt water tank that she attends to as lovingly as she tends to her furbebbehs! Amongst the beauties is a Frogspawn coral. For what I have read, frogspawn are kinda fussy and need the fabulous enivronment Courtney has created for them-hers are thriving! Corals are living creatures that don’t need direct feeding a long as their environment is clean with the right water temperature, pH conditions, water movement and lighting. While this purple and green gem doesn’t appear to do much it helps a great deal to provide shelter for everyone else in there 🙂”

I scream, you scream, we all scream for beautiful CREMES! Are you screaming too? YAY!!! If you’re just visiting the Queendom for the first time, I’d like to welcome you and thank you for stopping by to show some love. I also should let you know that I am a lover of all things creme! It’s my favorite finish! I mean seriously, who doesn’t love a good creme with a smooth, self leveling, opaque in 2-3 coats, creme? Cremes are the staple of any good collection! You can wear them as is, dress them up with some nail art or matte them and they will ALWAYS look good. But if you don’t believe me, stay tuned for today’s S&R.
