Hey Sugas!!! Have you ever just had “one of those days”? Well for me it’s been a week – and it’s only Wednesday. Here it is almost midnight and I’m just getting to my blog. Sheesh!
But in the name of polish, I must bring you The Indie Shop (TIS) Portland show limited editions from Bee’s Knees Lacquer (BKL). Per their usual theme of local urban legends, the BKL team created 3 new LEs inspired by the legend of a local witch, the Columbia River monster and the legend.
“All aboard the Iridescent and Multichrome Express! Final stop…. Gorgeous Town – at Fairy Queen Quad Rd and New Multichrome Parade Way. If you’re headed that way, we invite you to take a sit and enjoy the sights!”
Hey Sugas!!! Welcome to August Polish/Indie Pickup 2019, where the rides are fast, the lights are bright and the games are fun!
I ain’t gonna lie… I had to look up what a carnival is and my best definition that I could come up with is that it’s a temporary, travelling amusement park, fair and circus all in one. In my 36 years, I have to admit that I’ve never been to a “carnival”, but I’ve been to an amusement park, a fair and a circus and they all offer a great time for family and friends and exciting attractions.
A fair typically has the games and prizes and deep fried EVERYTHING, while an amusement park has games but is always best known for the rides. And we can’t forget the circus which offers clowns, acrobatics and death-defying stunts. Combine all that and you have a day at the carnival!
Today I have 25 PPU/IPU offerings all themed and inspired by… you guessed it, the carnival! So let’s rewind time back to when you were a kid again and get our polish on – carnival style!
Hey Sugas!!! The vast tropical waters of the deep blue sea is home to tens of thousands of different marine life species. For the month of August, the Makers Dozen have created polishes inspired by our neighbors of the sea!
And just in case you’re new around these parts, let me give you a quick recap of how Makers Dozen works.
How will the box be run?
The Makers Dozen is a collaboration between 12 makers with a different guest maker joining monthly. Polishes will be sold on maker’s individual web sites. Clicking on the brands name below will provide a direct link to the makers site.
Who are the founding brands?
The founding makers are:
- Olivia T. (Copacetic Cosmetics)
- Jenn D (NeVerMind Polish)
- Jannalyn M (LYNB Designs)
- Sacha J (Jior Couture)
- Angie C/N (Sassy Pants Polish)
- Sabrina B (Zombie Claw Polish)
- Trish R (PI Colors)
- Anetress M (Baby Girl Lacquer)
- Alicia C (Leesha’s Lacquers)
- Cynthia D (Alter Ego)
- Simone V (Ms Sparkle)
- Lisette V/J (Inspirrations)
What is the frequency?
We will be doing this monthly. So 13 polishes released each month.
The pricing is set my each individual maker depending on their own preferences.
How is Makers Dozen different from other boxes that are currently available?
Makers Dozen is so much different, and it’s really exciting. From day 1 to now the idea has changed so much and it’s a great thing. We will be releasing polishes with a cap of 40 so they will stay exclusive and it’ll be exciting to get your hands on! Because of this cap polishes may sell out super quick, but we aren’t having a cut off date. If they are still available in the next monthly they will still be able to be purchased. Also each bottle will be numbered just like works of art should be! We will have 13 drawings in our group to allow members to win free shipping, discounts, etc. The makers are so excited to be engaging with the members I really think it will be something special. Another thing that sets us apart is that each month will be a rainbow of colors! We all rotate colors each month so every month there will be 13 different colored polishes!
Why ‘Maker’s Dozen’?
Makers Dozen was a name that the group came up with together, a play on bakers dozen, and it fits so perfectly!
Hey Sugas!! I was 12 when the movie Clueless came out in 1995 but it was all the rage and still holds steady on my list of top movies of the 90s. For those not familiar, Clueless is a movie about the Beverly Hills high school socialite Cher, played by Alicia Silverstone and surviving the ups and downs of adolescent life. Her external demeanor at first seems superficial, but rather it hides her wit, charm, and intelligence which help her to deal with relationships, friends, family, school, and the all-important teenage social life. Her best friend Dee, who, at the time, I dreamed to be once in high school, was played by the gorgeous Stacey Dash. But instead, I was more of a Tai, kinda awkward played by the late Brittany Murphy. Basically, what I’m trying to say is, Clueless is definitely on the soundtrack of my life in the 90s. The times were different back then but nevertheless, classic!
The 6 piece collection today from Femme Fatale was inspired by none other than Clueless. And let us not forget about the August FOTM and COTM inspired by 2 amusement park favorites, the Swing (Flying) Carousel and the ferris wheel.
Hey Sugas!!! Every good movie needs a villain and in Toy Story there are 2 that come to mind, Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear and Evil Emperor Zurg.
Debuting in Toy Story 2, Evil Emperor Zurg is a space villain action figure and Buzz Lightyear’s archenemy. He has red evil eyes with neon gritting teeth, silver horns on his head, and a purple tunic with a black cape on it. He usually carries a gun.
Appearing originally in Toy Story 3, Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear is a jumbo, extra-soft teddy bear with a pink and white plush body and a velvety purple nose. This lovable bear stands fuzzy heads and shoulders above other teddy bears because he smells like sweet strawberries!
So let’s hear it for these 2 Toy Story Villains, the inspiration behind special edition duo from Glam Polish!

How shall we celebrate??? Well, the with the annual Cast a Spell hosted by Night Owl Lacquer. And the theme… spells used in the HP books & movies.
